ODOR NEUTRALIZER TEST UNIT
SUMMER 2021
SHARKNINJA

Background:
While working at SharkNinja, the odor neutralizer was a new prototype technology being developed for vacuum cleaners to replace scented bags. With a prototype product in hand, it needed to be tested for extended periods in a vacuum simulation to study scent loss over time. Our team wanted a way to simulate final product conditions for the neutralizer.
Key Aspects to study were:
-
Rate of scent loss over time
-
Mass loss over time

So I designed a housing which would let us test for all of the above.
Design Requirements:

-
Fits into a preexisting vacuum testing rig
-
Easy access for odor neutralizer replacement
-
Adjusts odor neutralizer exposure to airflow
-
Easy fabrication for testing replication

Final Design:

-
3D printed housing created in SolidWorks
-
7 parts including an outer, middle, and inner shell
-
Exterior pipe adapters for clamping in series or in the site's vacuum testing rig pipes.
-
Opening chamber top for odor neutralizer access
-
Dial turns neutralizer away from air flow for testing

Result:
The test housing design was utilized for future testing and data collection. Since this was towards the end of my internship and the Odor Neutralizer was still developing technology at the time, my involvement ended here.
